The above video shows how to setup the EVP6472 with the iMPACT from Xilinx and run a simple program into the FPGA

The steps identified are:

  1. Install the latest version of iMPACT from Xilinx.
  2. Connect the power to the EVP6472. The EVP6472 should configure, and a selection of LEDs should start to flash.
  3. Connect the SMT568 to the Xilinx USB pod.
  4. Connect the USB cable to the pod. The status LED will go Orange
  5. Plug the SMT568 into the EVP6472. Make sure you get Pin 1 matching on both the cable and the EVP6472. If you have this correct, the status LED on the pod will go Green
  6. Launch Xilinx's iMPACT.
  7. For now, say no when / if asked to create a new project. Also close the "New iMPACT project box".
  8. Double click "Boundary Scan" in the "iMPACT Flows" box.
Right click in the new "Boundary Scan" box, and select "Initialize Chain"
  9. Two devices should now be seen in iMPACT. The XC5VFX30T and a XC9536XL.
If you don't see anything, it might be that you have the SMT568 plugged in the wrong way round. Try the other way round and rescan the chain.
  10. For now, say "No" to assigning configuration files, and also close the "Device programming properties" box.
  11. Double click the XC5VFX30T and select "hpi_top.bit" from where you have saved it.

  12. Say no to the "Attach SPI or BPI Prom" prompt.
  13. Right click the XC5VFX30T and select "Program". A progress box should appear. D5 and D6 on the EVP6472 should very briefly flash off and then on again.
  14. A blue "Programming Succeeded" box should be shown. The LEDs near where you connected the SMT568 should be flashing once more.
